What is Puntr?
Puntr is a last-team-standing tipping competition. Each round you nominate one team you think will win. If they win, you survive through to the next round. If they lose or draw, you're knocked out.
The catch: once you've used a team they go on cooldown for a few rounds, so you have to plan ahead and save your strong teams for when you'll need them. The last tipster standing wins.
How do I sign up?
- Create a free account with your name, email and a password.
- Verify your email if you're prompted to.
- Once you're in, either join an existing comp with a comp code, or create your own.
I've forgotten my password or can't log in
Use the Forgot password link on the login screen to have a reset link emailed to you. Double-check you're using the email address you signed up with.
Still stuck? Get in touch and include any email addresses you might have registered under so we can find your account.
How do I change my name, email or password?
Open Account from the menu. You can change your display name and password there (changing your password asks for your current one first). Your email address isn't editable in the app yet - get in touch if you need it changed.
How do I delete my account?
You can ask us to delete your account and associated data at any time. See the Delete your account page for the steps and what's removed versus kept.
It isn't self-serve yet, so if you run any comps, transfer or close them first.
02 · Playing a comp
Joining, making your pick and surviving each round.
How does it work, round by round?
Each round you pick one team to win their match before the deadline.
- Win - your team wins and you advance to the next round.
- Loss or draw - your team loses or draws and you're eliminated.
You keep going until you're knocked out. Whoever outlasts everyone else wins the comp.
How do I join a comp?
- Log in and choose Join comp.
- Enter the comp code (and password, if the organiser set one).
- Make your first pick before the next deadline and you're in.
When's the deadline to make my pick?
It depends how your comp is set up. Some comps use a single round-wide deadline; others lock each pick at its own kickoff. Either way you can change your pick freely until the cutoff - once it passes, that pick is locked.
Can I pick the same team more than once?
Usually not straight away. Most comps use "use all teams, then reset": you can't pick a team again until you've used every team in the comp, then the whole pool reopens and they're all available. Some comps instead use a rolling cooldown, where a team you pick is locked for a set number of rounds before you can reuse them. Either way the strategy is the same - don't burn your best teams too early.
What happens if I forget to make a pick?
If you don't get a pick in before the deadline, you don't survive the round and you're eliminated. There's no auto-pick safety net, so set a reminder and get your tip in early.
What happens to my pick if a match is a draw or abandoned?
In most comps a draw counts as not winning, so it eliminates you the same as a loss - though some comps choose to let a draw survive.
If a match is abandoned or postponed, your comp's settings decide whether that counts as a win or leaves your pick pending until the fixture is resolved.
What about bye rounds and split rounds?
You only ever pick teams that are actually playing in the round, so byes simply reduce the pool of teams available that week. In split rounds the round runs across the full set of listed fixtures.
Can I see what everyone else picked?
Other puntrs' picks stay hidden until they lock - each pick reveals when its game kicks off (your comp's reveal setting controls the exact timing). Once locked you can see everyone's selections and who's still alive on the leaderboard.
What happens if everyone left gets knocked out in the same round?
That's the comp's rollover setting, chosen by the game master in Admin › Rules. By default it's sudden death and the joint puntrs split the result. The game master can instead set the comp to bring that round's knocked-out puntrs back in (optionally locking them out of the team they lost with), or to bring everyone back and roll the pot into a fresh comp. The money side of any split or rollover is arranged by your game master outside the app.
Which sports and leagues can I play?
Each comp is set up for one sport and league. Puntr ships ready-made fixture packs for the NRL, AFL, NFL, MLB, the Premier League, the EFL Championship and international football - and a game master can add any other league's teams and fixtures manually, so a comp can run on almost any competition.
Does it cost anything to play?
Playing on Puntr is free. Any buy-in or prize pool is arranged privately by your comp's organiser - Puntr isn't involved in collecting entry fees or paying out prizes.
03 · Running a comp
For organisers setting up and managing a comp.
How do I create a comp?
- Log in and choose Create comp.
- Pick your sport, starting round and comp options.
- Save it - you'll get a comp code to share with your puntrs.
How do I invite puntrs?
Share your comp code (and password, if you set one) with your group. Anyone with a Puntr account can join with it from Join comp.
Can I run a buy-in or prize pool?
Yes - but it's handled by you, privately, outside the platform. Puntr doesn't collect entry fees or distribute prizes. We'd suggest agreeing the prize split with your puntrs up front, especially for joint winners.
Can I customise the rules?
Yes. From your comp's Admin › Rules screen you can tune the team cooldown, how draws and postponements are treated, the deadline, where results come from and whether new joiners need approval.
How do I remove a puntr?
- Open your comp and go to Admin › Members.
- Select the puntr you want to remove.
- Confirm the removal.
How do I message everyone in my comp?
Use your comp's group chat to reach everyone at once - handy for round reminders and results. There's no separate email-all tool; the chat is the broadcast channel.
Can I reinstate an eliminated puntr?
Yes. In Admin › Members, find the knocked-out puntr and hit Revive - they're marked alive again and back in the running.
Can I transfer or share organiser duties?
Not yet self-serve - if you need to hand a comp over to another organiser, get in touch and we'll help move it across.
How do I end or delete a comp?
Open your comp settings and choose Delete comp. The comp is hidden from everyone straight away and fully removed after a short grace period, so use it carefully.
Is there a limit on how many puntrs can join?
Comps comfortably handle large groups - from a handful of mates to office-wide pools. If you're planning a very big comp, get in touch and we'll make sure you're set up.
