This is for people who already run a comp, so it is written on the assumption you know what you are doing.
The rules stay yours, the members stay yours, the prize stays yours.
What we add is the admin nobody enjoys, and an audience most organisers never get access to.
We can bring you players
This is the part that surprises people.
Puntr is not just somewhere to put your existing comp.
It is a place new players go looking for a comp to join.
75 players
One of our organisers in the US set up an NFL comp and listed it publicly.
He sent exactly one invite.
Puntr filled the rest, to 75 players and counting.
Another member's season-long Premier League tipping comp reached 41 players without the organiser sending a single invite.
Both are ordinary members, not partners or clubs.
Across our publicly listed member comps the average is around twenty players.
Comps kept entirely private average close to one.
- List your comp publicly. It appears where people browsing Puntr for something to join can find it. Keep it private instead if you would rather, and switch either way whenever you like.
- Our advertising works for you. Puntr runs its own campaigns across Facebook, Instagram and search. Those players land in the app looking for a comp. A listed comp is one of the places they land.
- You choose who gets in. Turn on approval and every request comes to you first. Nobody joins your comp without your say so.
- You still get the group-chat tools. A one-tap join link, a share graphic and a QR code for the noticeboard, so your own crew is as easy to bring in as ever.
- We will bring your existing players across. Send us the list of people who play in your comp now and we will do the inviting for you, in your name, with a one-tap link straight into your comp. If last season's comp was already on Puntr, that happens automatically when you run it back.
- We will write the announcement. Send us the details and we will send back a post and a message you can paste straight into the group.
- We will feature it. Comps we back get pushed through our own channels and campaigns.
How Puntr compares
Most organisers are choosing between a spreadsheet and one of the big tipping apps.
Here is where we are actually different, and where we are not.
| What matters |
Puntr |
A spreadsheet |
Other tipping apps |
| Build the comp you actually want |
Season-long tipping, Last Man Standing, knockout side games. Your scoring, perfect-round bonuses, finals, draw rules, deadlines, team cooldowns, joker rounds. Set it once and it runs itself |
Any rules you like. You enforce every one of them by hand |
Some scoring tweaks, inside their formats |
| New players sent your way |
List it publicly and our global audience fills it |
No |
No. Your comp is only ever as big as your own contact list |
| Bringing your current players over |
We invite them across for you, in your name |
Re-invite them one by one |
Start again each season |
| Who handles any user buy-ins? |
Nobody but you. Puntr has no buy-in, no credits, and never takes a cut |
You collect and hold it yourself |
Some run their own virtual credits or buy-ins |
| Chasing late picks |
The app does the chasing |
That is you, every week |
Varies |
| Someone to call |
A person, who will set the comp up with you |
No |
A help centre |
Where we are not different: the big tipping apps are free, so are we, they cover plenty of sports, and if all you want is a season-long AFL or NRL ladder they do that well. Puntr is for organisers who want to shape the comp themselves, more codes in one place, and a comp that can grow past their own address book.
How it works for you
Who owns the comp?
You do, in every sense that matters.
The rules, the members, the name, the prize and the call on whether to run it again next season are all yours.
Puntr is the scoreboard and the admin.
If you walked away tomorrow you would take your group with you.
I already run mine my way. What actually changes?
The game does not change.
The paperwork does.
The rules you already use are the rules Puntr runs.
What goes away is the spreadsheet, the "did you get my pick?" messages on a Saturday morning, the manual eliminations, and you working out who is still alive before you can go to bed.
How do Puntr's own comps fit in?
We run a handful of open comps so that someone who arrives with nobody to play with still has something on that week.
Think of them as the front door.
Once someone is in the app they are looking for a comp with a bit of character to it, which is where a listed member comp does well.
Two of ours have pulled bigger crowds than most of the official ones.
Do I have to move everything at once?
No, and we would not suggest it mid-season.
Most organisers start with one thing alongside what they already do: a comp for a second code, or a Last Man Standing at the next rollover.
If it is not better than your current setup, you have lost nothing.
Can you help me get my current players over?
Yes, and we would rather do that work than leave it to you.
Send us the list of people who play in your comp now and we will send the invitations for you.
They go out in your name, from your comp, with a one-tap link and a clear way to opt out.
We use the list for that invitation and nothing else, and we do not add anyone to any other mailing.
If you would rather send it yourself, we will write the message and hand it to you.
And once a comp has run a season on Puntr, inviting last season's players into the new one happens automatically when you run it back.
What if a result is wrong, or something goes sideways mid-season?
You are the admin.
You approve or remove members, adjust results, and settle anything the fixture feed gets wrong.
Your ruling is the one that counts.
And you can reach a person, not a help desk.
The money
What does it cost me, or my players?
Nothing.
A comp of up to 30 players is free, every sport, every season.
If you are bringing a comp across, we put you on Puntr+, the organiser tier, at no charge and on an ongoing basis.
That lifts the player cap, gives you a custom join code, and co-admins.
Your players are never charged to play in your comp.
Can I run a paid entry comp?
Yes, you can run a paid entry comp and offer prizes to your group.
If I run a paid entry comp, who holds the prize money?
You do.
Puntr never touches your prize pot, never takes a cut, and never asks your players for a buy-in.
If your comp has always been ten dollars in and winner takes the lot, that stays exactly where it has always been: between you and your players.
So how does Puntr make money?
Two ways, and neither of them is your comp.
Organisations that want a white-labelled comp on their own domain pay us.
Individual tippers who want deeper stats and planning tools can buy Playr+, which is optional and has nothing to do with running a comp.
That is it.
What happens to my members' details?
We do not sell data.
Full stop.
Your members get the notifications and emails tied to your comp, plus Puntr's own product updates like any app, and they can switch those off whenever they like.
We will not email your members to move them into somebody else's comp.
The practical stuff
What kinds of comp can I run?
Season-long tipping.
Everyone tips every game, points on a ladder.
You set what a correct tip is worth, whether draws score, whether there is a perfect-round bonus, what happens when someone forgets to tip, and whether finals count double.
Last Man Standing.
One pick a round, lose and you are out, rolls over if nobody survives.
Set the cooldown before a team can be picked again, whether a draw eliminates, and how many entries each player gets.
A knockout side game can run alongside either, so people knocked out early still have something to play for.
Any of it across 19 competitions.
If you have run something for years with a rule of your own, tell us and we will tell you straight whether Puntr can do it.
What do my players actually have to do?
Tap a link and pick a team.
That is the whole job.
It works in a phone browser with no download, or in the Puntr app on iPhone and Android if they prefer.
There is a short join code as well for anyone who would rather type it in than follow a link.
What happens at the end of the season?
A season-long comp ends with the season.
A Last Man Standing ends itself, when someone wins or nobody survives and it rolls over.
Either way you duplicate the comp into the next season or the next round with your settings intact, instead of building it again from scratch.
Which competitions can I run?
Nineteen, and we keep adding: Premier League, Championship, League One, Scottish Premiership, La Liga, Serie A, Bundesliga, Ligue 1, NRL, AFL, A-League, NFL, College Football, NHL, MLB, NBL, BBL, Six Nations and Prem Rugby.
When one season ends, the group has somewhere to go instead of going quiet.
What is in it for you
$100In the pot
We put $100 in as prize money while you try it.
It costs you nothing, and "there is $100 in the pot" gets a group chat moving in a way that "please join my comp" never does.
Get past 50 players and we top the prize up a second time.
- A bigger comp than you can recruit on your own. Your crew, plus whoever finds you through Puntr. Most organisers are capped by how many mates they can nag. This lifts that ceiling.
- Puntr+ on the house, ongoing. For organisers we bring across. No player cap, a custom join code your group will actually remember, co-admins so you are not the only one who can fix things, and one message to the whole comp. Playr+ included for your own tipping.
- Your Sunday night back. Fixtures load themselves. Picks lock at kickoff. Eliminations happen without you. Players who have not picked get chased by the app instead of by you.
- A person who checks in. We will help you set it up, and we will come back mid-season to see how it is travelling.
Getting started
- Tell us the compSport, format (season-long tipping, Last Man Standing, or both), and which round you want to start on.
- We set it up and bring your players overIncluding the public listing, if you want the extra players. Approval stays in your hands.
- Paste the join link into your groupWe drop the $100 in and start sending people your way.
Got a question that is not answered here?
Ask it.
We would rather give you a straight no than a vague yes.
